MADISON, S.D. (KELO) — Last season, Dakota State struggled on the football field and posted a 1-9 record, losing their first eight contests. But with the 2024 campaign less than two weeks away, the Trojans aim to bounce back.
DSU returns 15 starters total between both sides of the ball, so there will be more continuity and experience on the field this season.
The Trojans look to learn from 2023, when they lost by 20 or more points four times, including suffering a 52-0 defeat to Dickinson State to close out the year. They were shutout twice held below 20 points in all 10 contests.
“Honestly, it’s just one of those things where you have to learn, you got to get inside the chaos, handle adversity and move on,” Dakota State head coach Josh Anderson said. “I thought we’ve done a really good job of maturing and getting through that.”
“It was a rough season last year,” Dakota State senior running back Tyce Ortman said. “We like to forget about it. I mean, we learn from it. We move on. But we had a great spring, great summer.”
Dakota State opens the season and its brand new facility on August 29 against Dakota Wesleyan.
