Looking at rain amounts

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The summer started very wet in southeast KELOLAND, but as the summer has gone on, the rain has slowed down.

After a couple of light showers Monday morning in Sioux Falls, the sun came out and temperatures reached the 70s. Though rain amounts in Sioux Falls stayed less than five hundredths of an inch, the northern half of Minnehaha County received anywhere from a quarter to half inch.

Here’s where Sioux Falls officially lies when it comes to rainfall this summer.June was a record-setting month for some south of Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls received just over 11 inches of rain with nine inches of that falling during the third week of the month.

The rain got toned back in July with an inch and 17 hundredths. The majority of it falling during the last couple of days of the month.

And this month seems to be just enough to register in the rain gauge.

Thanks to June’s rain, Sioux Falls is at its 34th wettest summer so far. An inch of rain will catapult the city to 25th wettest. While two inches would bring it to 16th wettest. We’ll need a total of two and two-thirds of an inch to reach the top ten.

Of course, this doesn’t cover all of KELOLAND. As I mentioned earlier, we had a big difference in rain this morning from northern to southern Minnehaha County. So there are differences throughout the area.
