One dead in crash east of Dell Rapids

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — One person is dead after a crash near Dell Rapids Thursday morning. 

According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office, one person died from a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Jasper Street and 482nd Avenue, which is 6 miles east of Dell Rapids. 

According to the Department of Public Safety, the victim was a 35-year-old woman from Jasper, Minnesota. Names of the drivers involved hasn’t been released, pending notification of family members.

Authorities say a 19-year-old driver of a pickup truck failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a car and both vehicles left the 4-way intersection and came to rest in the southwest ditch.

The 19-year-old received serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. The woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say charges are pending.

The sheriff’s office says the South Dakota Highway Patrol will handle the crash investigation that is ongoing.
