LAKE POINSETT, S.D. (KELO) — The second annual Summer Classic is this weekend at Lake Poinsett, where golfers and anglers will get a chance to compete in a two-day tournament to help raise money for sick children in the area.

Whether it’s golfing

“36 golf teams on Friday,”

or fishing,

“And we got over 60 fishing teams for Saturday,”

Ty Eschembaum has found a way to reel in a lot of money for some great causes with his Summer Classic.

“We raise money for young cancer survivors in the state of South Dakota, Make A Wish South Dakota Montana and we also fund missionary work globally,” Eschembaum said.

Eschembaum started the Summer Classic in honor of his late girlfriend Autumn Jungwirth.

She was the love of his life and passed away in 2019.

“All of our causes are near and dear to me especially Make A Wish, I was a Make A Wish kid and we raise money for Make A Wish we have a very strong partnership with them in honor of my late girlfriend Autumn,” Eschembaum said.

Back in April, Eschembaum’s Foundation donated $100 thousand dollars to Make A wish from the money he’s raised through his benefits.

“He made the decision very intentionally that he knew Make a Wish is what he wanted to support in her memory and she always talked about how much she loved kids and I can only think about how proud she must be as she sees the work that Ty is doing today,” Make A Wish South Dakota and Montana President and CEO Sue Salter said.

Eschembaum has a passion for helping Make A Wish because he survived cancer at an early age.

“More than just the giving, it’s the connections that he makes with Wish Kids who look up to him, who want to emulate him, they see the good that he does and they see the adversities he’s been through in his life and takes every challenge that comes his way and turns it into something good,” Salter said.

Besides fishing and golfing, the public can bid on items in the silent auction, plus there’ll be plenty of food and music. To learn more we’ve provided a link to Eschembaum’s Foundation.
