SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — June is National Pride Month and members of the LGBTQ+ community in Sioux Falls are gearing up for their annual celebrations.

Sioux Falls Pride has many celebrations planned for the week, but perhaps the most notable is the Pride Parade on Saturday.

“The weather is supposed to be nice, let’s knock on wood. I’m looking forward to that and I’m just really excited to see all the people show up,” Hadass Negi, a Sioux Falls Pride Board Member, said. “It’s really, it’s empowering to walk the parade and to be around these people. And it’s such a really good, positive day.”

Following the Pride Parade is the Pride Festival, which has a new location. This year it’ll be at the Sioux Falls Stadium next to the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

“It’s good, we’re pretty excited,” Negi said. “There’s going to be grass at the stadium, which we’re looking forward to and we’re going to be able to fit in many more vendors this year now.”

Also new is that the Pride Festival is a dry event this year.

“It’s going to be nice to have a dry Pride so it can be a little more inclusive for everybody,” Negi said. “And then for those who want to indulge, they can go to Club David and enjoy a show and have a drink.”

No matter the location or changes, Negi says it’s always beautiful to see everybody come together for these Pride events.

“To be in the Midwest and to be in a city where it’s so supported, it just feels so refreshing, if that makes sense,” Negi said. “I don’t know, it touches a special place in my heart.”

The parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday on Phillips Avenue. The festival will run from noon to five.

Also new this year is a sensory-friendly shopping experience at the stadium, which will start at 10:30 a.m.
