SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — If you have outdoor plans this summer, be sure to pack the bug spray.

A vectorborne epidemiologist with the South Dakota Department of Health says it could be a robust mosquito season in the state.

“The wet spring we have experienced and recent rainfalls create ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, potentially increasing in population,” vectorborne epidemiologist Anita Bharadwaja said.

Other ways to prevent mosquito bites include getting rid of stagnant water in your yard, wearing long sleeves and pants, and limiting your time outside from dusk to midnight.
