Tornado damaged structures in Sheldon, IA Friday night

SHELDON, IA (KELO) — A tornado damaged several structures near the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center in Sheldon, Iowa Friday afternoon.

The tornado touched down at about 4:15 p.m. It made a 75-yard path and travelled northwest for about one mile before leaving the ground near the Risefest Festival Grounds, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornado was classified as an EF0, coming through at 85 mph, ripping apart several buildings and flipping several RVs. The tornado was one mph short of being classified as an EF1. This is the Enhanced Fujita classification scale:

EF0…..65 to 85 mph

EF1…..86 to 110 mph

EF2…..111 to 135 mph

EF3…..136 to 165 mph

EF4…..166 to 200 mph

EF5…..>200 mph

No injuries or fatalities were reported.
