SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Summertime comes with the good and the bad.

“I love the heat, I love everything, but once the bugs come out, it’s hard times,” said Lindsay Wurth of Sioux Falls.

Wurth isn’t the only one who’s noticed mosquitoes flying around.

Sioux Falls environmental health manager Dominic Miller says the city has received some complaints.

Miller says crews are out looking for water where mosquitoes may be breeding and treating it with larvicide.

“We don’t want them to grow up being an adult, flying around and bothering people. If we can get them early, that’s by far the best way,” Miller said.

Crews are also using traps to monitor mosquitoes in Sioux Falls.

As for spraying, Miller says crews will be buzzing around town soon.

“All of our staff out at vector control is part time, so we have a lot college kids, teachers that have summers off, so we’re getting all of them on-boarded, getting all of them trained, ready to go for the season. We’re getting all the equipment ready to go,” Miller said.

As the city does its part to tackle the mosquitoes, Wurth is also fending off the bugs for herself.

“Usually I have a bottle of bug spray in my car that I try to put on if I can. Honestly, I just got good at smacking them,” Wurth said.
