Many from the Central U.S. to the Northeast could see rain throughout Memorial Day weekend. Meanwhile, the West appears to be the winner regarding a holiday weekend forecast. Here’s a look at the Memorial Day forecast for the U.S. from the FOX Forecast Center. DANGEROUS SEVERE WEATHER WITH ‘VIOLENT’ TORNADOES, EXTREME WIND THREATENS MILLIONS OVER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKENDOn Sunday, the severe weather threat shifts to the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee valleys with possible tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds. Elsewhere, scattered showers and thunderstorms will roam the mid-Atlantic states and Dakotas, with a chance of showers in the Northeast and the far Northwest. But much of the West looks sunny and pleasant with temperatures in the 70s for Denver and Santa Fe, with 60s along the Pacific Coast.Heading into Memorial Day, it is not going to be much of an outdoor day for the East Coast, with rain and thunderstorms likely across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center even has a severe weather threat for Baltimore, Washington, D.C and into parts of Virginia and North Carolina where damaging wind gusts may accompany some thunderstorms. WHICH US AIRPORTS HAVE THE LONGEST AND SHORTEST DELAYS?It will be warm but occasionally wet in the Southeast Monday with a mix of sunshine and scattered thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms could turn severe in North Carolina. Florida is looking hot but mostly dry with highs in Orlando pushing into the mid-upper 90s.Rain and thunderstorm chances will hug the Canadian border with possible storms in Minneapolis. But Kansas and Missouri will get a much-needed break after the severe weather of the prior week. Much calmer weather is expected in the southern Plains for Monday save for a few thunderstorms scattered in East Texas. Temperatures will feel summer-like with highs reaching the mid 90s to low 100s.The West appears to be the big winner for the Memorial Day weekend forecast, with mostly sunny and pleasant conditions on tap.The Southwest is void of just about any rain chances and will enjoy a sunny and warm holiday with summer-like temperatures already in full swing for Las Vegas and Phoenix. The same can almost be said for the Northwest, though a few showers are in the forecast for western Washington. But highs across the region will be comfortable, ranging from the upper 60s in Seattle to the mid 80s in Boise. The hot temperatures in the Southeast make swimming or going to the beach a good option for those in the region. Swimmers and surfers in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic should be aware of rip current dangers heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service in Houston is warning of a high risk of strong rip currents along Texas beaches through Memorial Day weekend. Late in the week, the NWS in Melbourne said there is a moderate risk for life-threatening rip currents along central Florida’s Atlantic beaches. On the West Coast, California and Oregon coastal areas should have beautiful weather for a trip to the shore this weekend. Mild temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s and sunny skies are on tap for most Pacific Coast beaches through Memorial Day. Stay with FOX Weather for forecast updates through the holiday weekend.
